Carmen grew up being obsessed with her body image. Although it was completely unintentional, Carmen's mother's modeling career highly influenced Carmen's attitude about her body. Her mother was constantly worrying about staying in shape and keeping the right body size and look. This was especially evident during her modeling career. Although Carmen was only a toddler, it still was able to influence her to believe that she had to have a perfect body. After her mom quit her job as a model, her mom was still obsessed with her body image and staying in shape. Because of this, Carmen is constantly trying to look just like her mom. She grew up trying to keep herself looking a certain way and trying to look like a model. Carmen is constantly at the gym exercising to keep herself in shape and she absolutely hates always having to exercise. With her obsession with her body image, Carmen has become very skillful with makeup. She loves owning expensive and professional makeup that she always uses. Her mom also sometimes gets a discount to buy this makeup because of how she used to model for them and also still works for them. Carmen always makes sure that her makeup is completely perfect and will usually spend almost an hour just making her face. She also wants to have perfect hair and will usually straighten it. She'll sometimes leave it wavy, but it tends to be straightened. She's very vain about her hair and always wants it to look absolutely perfect. Carmen loves wearing very girly clothes, such as dresses and skirts. She rarely ever wears pants. Even during the winter, she'll just wear a pair of leggings under her dress. Other times she'll just go out in the cold without leggings and try to ignore how freezing it is. She also tends to wear heels to most places, but sometimes she'll go with a pair of boots. Carmen tends to wear tight clothing that shows her figure. She also usually wears a lot of jewelry with her outfits. One ring she never goes without is one that her grandmother gave when she was a little girl. Because the ring is too small for her fingers now, she has it on a chain that she wears as a necklace. She's basically never without it. |
Personality |
---|
Carmen is very independent. She enjoys being on her own and doing her own thing. Throughout her life, her parents would often leave her on her own to take care of herself and her brother, so she easily grew up to become independent. She hates feeling that someone is trying to hold her down or tell her what to do. When someone does either of these, she tends to try and get as far away from them as possible. She will completely take them out of her life and have almost nothing to do with them. She just really enjoys being her own individual. She's also very original and doesn't really copy people or go with the flow of current fashions. She enjoys having her own personal style that she likes - even if it isn't always what's considered to be in style. Such things have never bothered her. Carmen is also a very caring individual. She tends to care deeply about those who are close to her. She loves to make her friends laugh and to cheer them up when they're feeling down. She doesn't want her friends to feel sad, so if she gets any hint that they are, she will do anything possible to make them feel better. She is also self-sacrificing and will give up plans in order to help her friends. If a friend is in trouble, she will drop almost anything to go and help them. Carmen is also very charitable towards people. At LPS, she's joined community service clubs and loves to help people. She tends to try to do community service whenever she gets the chance. It's usually at least twice a month. She loves being able to help people, and she loves the feeling it gives her when she's finished. A lot of people know that Carmen's mom used to be a model, so when they meet Carmen, they expect to meet some ditsy teenage girl who only cares about fashion, make-up, and her appearance. They don't entirely expect to meet a very intelligent young woman. Carmen does most certainly care about all of the prior things, but she's still very smart in school. She has been able to make honor roll throughout her entire high school career and was able to join the National Honor Society her junior year. She has always excelled in her classes and hopes that when she goes off to college she will continue to do so. However, Carmen easily stresses herself out with everything she does. She often ends up breaking down emotionally at least once a week because of everything she has on her plate. She will freak out because of all the class projects and assignments she has, all of the community service she needs to do, and just about everything else in her life. She doesn't know when enough is enough, and just continues to pile more and more work onto everything in her life. |
History |
---|
Carmen Marion Arroyo was born to Diego Arroyo and Lucy Williams Arroyo, a couple who were thought to never last. the two had married after only two months of dating and people thought it was because either Lucy was pregnant or the two were just being crazy young adults who thought they were in love. Everyone believed they would break up after at most a year of marriage, but they continued to be completely in love with each other all throughout their marriage. They had married when Diego was twenty-seven and Lucy was twenty-three. After seven years of marriage, they had their first child together, Carmen Marion Arroyo. Although Carmen's mother Lucy had almost been fired from her job because of her pregnancy, Carmen was still able to bring happiness into both of her parents' lives. Growing up, Carmen was an only child. She didn't have any younger or older siblings, which was alright with her. She never really cared about things such as that. She enjoyed being on her own and doing her own thing, although sometimes it was hard to find a playmate when she was the only one in a large house. Her parents were sometimes around, but it was mostly her father who was at the house. She grew up very close to him because he tended to work from home in his own private office. She did have a nanny to take care of her while her parents were away or at the house, but she never actually grew close to her nanny. Her nanny, Bianca, was always very caring and kind to Carmen, but Carmen was never close to her because she wanted to know her parents. Carmen tried to become very close to her father, so she would often stay in his office with him. She learned to not disturb him while he was working on his own or with colleagues. She became a very quiet, attentive child who listened carefully. She enjoyed being able to watch her father do his work and he would sometimes give her little tasks to do to make her feel important. She would sometimes go to get him and his colleagues a drink or snacks or anything small that she could do for them. Carmen always tried to be close to her mother, but her mom was almost always too busy. After she quit working as a model, she worked as a photographer. She was often away and out of town due to her job. Whenever Lucy was home, Carmen would try to hang out with her mother as much as she could, although Lucy wanted to mostly just relax and not do much of anything. Even so, Carmen always wanted to be just like her mother. She would see pictures throughout the house from Lucy's modelling career and would watch how her mother tended to always take care of her body in specific ways. Carmen mentally told herself that she was going to be just like her mother when she grew up, although as she got older she decided she definitely could never be a model. In seventh grade, Carmen began attending Lebeaux Preparatory School where she met her best friend Luna Padilla. She and Luna clicked almost instantly and were practically inseparable. Carmen easily considered Luna to be her best friend and absolutely loved her. A year later, Carmen met the new girl Courtney Watson. She welcomed her to the school and easily became best friends with her too. At first, Luna and Courtney would never hang out with each other and it made Carmen feel completely awful. She wanted her two best friends to be best friends with each other so they could all hang out all the time. She would invite Luna to hang out with her and Courtney, but Luna would pass. She would also do the same by inviting Courtney. Over time, Courtney and Luna began to hang out with each other and become best friends too. It made Carmen beyond ecstatic that her best friends were now friends. The three basically created their own little tight-knit group and it was all Carmen really wanted. As Carmen got older, people began to notice how intelligent she was. They began to tell her she could achieve great things and that she was very intellectually smart. She began to believe this when she was young and went throughout middle school at the top of her class. When it was time for high school classes, everything became much harder and she had to work harder to keep up her grades. It was no longer the easy classes she was used to, but much harder ones that made her think. She once almost received a C on her report card, but was able to do extra credit for the class and get her grade up to a B. She began to constantly stress herself out by worrying about her grades at all times. She wasn't able to worry about almost anything else except classes. She noticed she was starting to put on a bit of weight, and decided that she couldn't do that. She still wanted to look like her mom and thought that the best way was to try and get her mom's attention was to look like her. She started exercising constantly in order to stay in shape. Throughout high school, Carmen began to give herself more and more to do. She had always been an overachiever, and she wanted to keep achieving crazy amounts of things. She joined lots of different clubs in order to keep herself busy, but also to make herself look great for future college applications. She also started doing lots of community service for the same reasons, but also because she felt good and proud of herself whenever she did so. Before long, Carmen had for too much work to do all the time. She was always busy with school assignments, community service, clubs, friends, or whatever else was in her life. It was easy enough for Carmen to become far too stressed out with everything in her life. During her junior year, she began to stress herself out so much that she had no idea what was going on anymore. She felt like everything was collapsing on her and she couldn't breathe. She started to sometimes have panic attacks, but never told anyone about them. She didn't want people to know that she was stretching herself out too thin. She also couldn't convince herself to stop trying to do everything even if it wasn't possible for her anymore. Her junior year, Carmen's parents decided they wanted a second child. Because Carmen's mother was too old to have anymore children, they decided to adopt a child. They adopted a five year old boy named Max, and Carmen completely welcomed him into her family and absolutely adored her younger brother. She made sure to take care of him whenever she got the chance and she gave him so much of her attention. Carmen knows that she should probably tell someone about how she's stressing herself out so much and having panic attacks, but she doesn't want to do that. She's far too stubborn and independent to want anyone to take care of her or tell her what she can and cannot do. She wants to be her own person, even if it means completely hurting herself. She doesn't seem to care too much so long as she's able to keep doing her own thing. Sometimes she wants to tell her friends, but then decides against it. She then considers telling her parents, but thinks that it would be dumb to do that. For now, she's just going to keep all of this to herself. |

Lucy Williams Arroyo is Carmen's mother. Because of work, she tends to go by the name Lucy Williams, but legally her name is Lucy Arroyo. Lucy had previously worked as a model during her twenties and early thirties. She quit at the age of thirty-four because they decided she was getting too old. Lucy had almost been fired from her job when she was thirty and pregnant with Carmen, but she convinced them to keep her around and she would get back in perfect shape after her pregnancy. Afterwards, she took classes on photography and became a photographer. She currently works for the same company she was a model for and also does some freelancing as a wedding photographer and such. During Carmen's early childhood, she rarely saw her mother because she was constantly away working as a model and then always gone taking photography classes. Lucy and Carmen never became very close until Carmen was about nine. Lucy also was the one that somewhat created the idea in Carmen's mind that she needed to have the perfect body. She knew she could never be a model like her mom because she wasn't nearly tall enough to be one. Recently, she and her mom have had many arguments with one another over petty things because Carmen is constantly moody. Diego Arroyo is Carmen's father. He was born in Florida to his two parents who had recently moved from Puerto Rico. He grew up in Florida for most of his life and was the first in his family to attend college. He went on to law school where he ended up dropping out after one semester. He reconsidered his choices and decided to try law school one more time. This time he ended up actually finishing and graduating. It was only by chance that he met Lucy Williams. The two had been walking on the street near each other and she ended up spilling all of her grocery bags. He helped her with everything and somehow that got them talking to each other. After two months of dating, the two suddenly decided to get married. Most people said their marriage would fail, but it's lasted perfectly fine throughout all the years. After getting married, Diego and Lucy moved to Lucy's hometown Lebeaux. He got a job as a prosecutor in Lebeaux and the two had a daughter when Lucy was thirty and he was thirty-four. Although one might think it would be the opposite way around, Carmen grew up very close with her dad. He was often around because he liked working from home. Carmen learned early on to not disturb her father while he was working, so she would often sit on the floor of his office and just watch him work. Sometimes he would give her some silly little tasks to do to make her feel important. Max Arroyo is Carmen's younger brother. He was adopted a year ago by her parents who decided they really wanted to have another child. Lucy was far too old to have another kid, but they really wanted a second child. They began to go through the adoption process and ended up adopting a five year old boy named Max. Carmen was beyond excited to have a younger sibling and a little brother. She would play games with him all the time and take care of him. Her parents weren't around that often because they were busy with their jobs, and Lucy was often out of town working, so Carmen would usually babysit Max. She also sometimes decides to babysit him instead of hanging out with her friends. Usually her parents will have the babysitter come take care of Max, but Carmen will occasionally offer to take care of him for free instead. She absolutely adores Max and is definitely going to be that annoying overprotective older sister when he gets older. |
